How to Deploy the Return to Workplace Solution Release 1.3 Apps

Return to Workplace Reopen responsibly, monitor intelligently and protect continuously with solutions for a safer work environment. In this blog, we will start step by step, creating a commercial trial organization for Power Platform and will review the following steps:

• Create a commercial trial organization (Microsoft 365)
• Add the cloud services for licensing PowerApps License (Powerapps per User per Month)
• Assign the PowerApps license to the user
• Create a new Environment with the Dataverse (CDS) Database
• Deploy the Return to Workplace Solution (Apps) from Appsource
• Review and Validate the Return To Workplace Applications

They have not required steps to this initial process for deploying the Return to workplace solution, we are starting with a commercial trial organization (Microsoft 365), and then we will be building and deploying the components for the solution.

The Return to the workplace has detailed steps on how to deploy the application, however, we think having a video series will be easier and intuitive to follow.

Creating a Commercial Trial Organization

This is the initial step before deploying the application, we will need to create a new organization with the subscription for Microsoft 365 and then we will be able to add users and create environments, for those people that are not creating a trial and they want to use their company organization, the deployment user will require to have Environment creator and Application Maker roles assigned, please request your Global Administrator to assigned those Azure AD Roles. For this trial organization, the main user will have the Global Administrator role so you will have all the access that you need in the organization.

Creating a Commercial Trial Organization (Microsoft 365)

Add Cloud Services for PowerApps

Adding the Cloud services for PowreApps (Powerapps per User per Month) this services will allow you to create and deploy the return to workplace solution. We included this step due to many requests from application administrators, this is one of the steps that most Global Administrators will need to get the service and then apply to the users.

Assign the PowerApps License to Users

All the users will require to have a license assigned to them and this step will guide you on how to assign those licenses to the users, there are many questions regarding license, and how they apply, however, this is the one recommended for RTW deployment.

Create the New Environment and Database

When creating the organization you will have one default environment, that will not contain a Dataverse (CDS) database, and we will need to create a new environment with a new Dataverse (CDS) database. This is another area where there is a lot of questions regarding the compatibility and capability to deploy to Full Dataverse and Team Dataverse (project Oakdale), just to make it clear so far up to this time, only Full Dataverse (CDS) will be compatible with RTW Solution.

Deploy Return to Workplace Solution

Deploying the application is been automated by Appsource, the platform will deploy the solution and import all the sample data. For customers that are not in the commercial, you can also download the solution deployment files from Github, you will be running the solution packager deployer tool.

When the installation is completed then you can find all the applications in the PowerApps Make portal, the next step is to validate the sample configuration.

Review and Validate

Review and Validate the configuration that is part of the sample configuration, we will be testing the Booking pass creation and how to configure one of the facilities to use to create a booking pass, please make sure that you will bring all the facilities in your organization, with floors and areas you will be using.
